Monster Energy’s Phil ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Davis Defeats Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal In A Unanimous Decision For the Light Heavyweight Bout to Determine the Number One Contender

Monster Energy’s Phil ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Davis Defeats Muhammed ‘King Mo’

Monster Energy’s Phil Davis Wins Bellator 154

Once I got to it, I was like, For sure you got this. Relax and take your time. I should’ve had a little more urgency. Phil Davis

Monster Energy’s Phil Davis takes unanimous decision over Muhammed Lawal at Bellator 154 at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif securing him a shot at the light heavyweight title against light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary.

Despite the fact Davis won a unanimous decision, he was clearly cautious and respectful of Mo’s power throughout the entire fight. Davis utilized beautiful movement and footwork, staying just outside Lawal’s range while delivering a consistent barrage of kicks throughout the first two rounds to Lawal’s legs, head, and body. In the third, Davis finally opened up with his hands and caught Lawal with a jarring right, which wobbled Mo and secured Davis the only substantial take down of the affair.

After getting him to the canvas, the powerful wrestler almost locked in his trademark Kimura, but Lawal dug deep, utilizing his own wrestling background and amazingly escaped. When it was all said and done, Lawal narrowly kept his record of “never submitted” intact, but saw his seven-fight winning streak come to a unanimous and disappointing end.

“Once I got to it, I was like, For sure you got this. Relax and take your time,” said Davis.” I should’ve had a little more urgency.”

Next up Davis will challenge reigning Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion McGeary who last fought in September defeating Tito Ortiz via second-round submission at Bellator’s Dynamite event, and has been on injured reserve recovering from a knee injury.

Davis has now extended his impressive fight record in MMA to 16 pro wins out of 19 total fights. He is one of Monster Energy’s elite MMA athletes along with Jon Jones, Conor McGregor, Dominick “Dominator” Cruz, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Chris “All-American” Weidman, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, Rory MacDonald, Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, Rampage Jackson, and Michael Chandler.
