Emerging on her own terms after singing for the likes of Ghostpoet and Kwabs, ‘Heavy On My Heart’ finds Saint Clair mastering her warm, immersive take on soul, which runs back to a teenage discovery of classic standards (Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder), again collaborating with Ben Jones and Raffertie (Ninja Tune).
Educated from a young age at a French school in central London – where subsequent bilingualism enabled a time writing and living in Paris – Saint Clair’s nascent musical awareness came via attendance of youth choir (alongside Michael Kiwanuka) and was further fuelled by the hum of her bohemian, arts-obsessed household.
