Julian Quaye – The Aviator (Art)
The Bristol, UK painter/artist known as Julian Quaye prides himself on a his own quote:
“90% of painting is half mental.”
The phrase itself may not have any meaning to you if you aren’t an artist yourself, but juxtaposition and irony is what Julian aims for. Just read a little more about The Aviator here:
A typical example of his work is ‘The Aviator’: a penguin in early period pilot’s uniform at the North Pole. Or to put it another way, a bird that can’t fly dressed in flying kit and standing at the wrong end of the world.
When Julian Quaye exhibited for the first time, within 3 months he was placed along Damian Hirst and Banksy at a contemporary urban art auction. Check out some more of his art below:
You can check out more from Julian Quaye’s online look book by clicking here. It included brief character biographies which binded them into a larger illustrated book. It’s classified as Steam Punk meets Beatrix Potter. Julian Quaye is working on a new body of work with more characters for exhibition later in the year.
