FSH Society and Boston Celtics Team Up for Boston TD Garden Full Court…

Shoot hoops to fight FSH muscular dystrophy!

Basketball lovers will be able to play on the legendary parquet of Boston’s TD Garden and help in the fight against FSH muscular dystrophy. A win-win!

On March 21, 2016, the FSH Society and the Boston Celtics are teaming up to host the Boston TD Garden Full Court Fantasy Fundraiser to raise funds in support of the FSH Society, a world leader in combating FSH muscular dystrophy research. Each five-person team will compete in an afternoon full of fun skills challenges – right on the legendary TD Garden parquet floor. Participants will also receive a ticket to watch the Celtics take on the Orlando Magic that evening.

The competition begins at 1:00pm on Monday, March 21, when players will participate in regular and dribble knockout games. The tournament continues with a timed skill trial, including dribble cones, passing and layup shots. Teams will then get the opportunity to show off their shooting skills before winners are announced.

All ages and abilities are invited to participate, including wheelchair athletes. Each participant is asked to raise $250, although those that sign up by January 31 will receive an early-bird discount and are only required to raise $175. Net fundraising proceeds will benefit the award-winning non-profit, the FSH Society.

The FSH Society is a patient-driven organization that supports research and education for FSHD, one of the most prevalent forms of muscular dystrophy. The Society, which has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for eight consecutive years, has funded nearly $6 million in research grants, which have been leveraged to over $86 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health. Its efforts have resulted in many accomplishments, including the discovery of the genetic causes of FSHD.

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is a degenerative muscle disease that causes progressive weakness, usually starting with the face, shoulder, arms, legs and abdomen, but may affect almost any skeletal muscle in the body. FSHD affects approximately 870,000 people and there is no treatment or cure, yet.

The deadline to register for the event is February 14, 2016.
