Aasha Marie – WYWS / While You Were Sleeping (Video)

Coming from the Southside of Chicago, Aasha Marie has seen the gun violence and how it affects her city. Her new video WYWS or While You Were Sleeping was written out of her own anguish.

And she knows from first hand experience losing a family member herself. You can hear the Chicago influence and you can even pick up on hints of Lupe Fiasco in her style.

She breaks down the song and the concept:

The song addresses two camps, the gang member enthralled in Chicago violence who is sleep to his own mortality and eternal destination that one day he will have to face God to whom He has to give an account too. The other camp is the church, God’s revelation of Christ to a dying world by way of gospel proclamations.
